Why Our Goldendoodles Stand Out from the Rest...

Our Breeding Program Method:

Healthy, Happy Goldendoodle Puppies Raised with Care | PerksCourt.com

At Perks Court Doodles, we are passionate about breeding healthy, happy Goldendoodle puppies that will thrive in loving homes. Our commitment to quality starts with comprehensive genetic and health testing of our dams and sires to ensure the best possible genetic outcomes. Using advanced DNA and genetic markers, we aim to produce Goldendoodles with excellent temperaments and healthy genes.

Our puppies are raised in a nurturing, home environment where they benefit from a structured puppy curriculum. This approach helps them develop confidence, learn that the world is safe, people are kind, and other dogs are friendly. By raising our Goldendoodles in our home, we ensure they are well-socialized and accustomed to a variety of experiences, making them excellent companions for families.

To keep our program focused and personalized, we limit the number of litters we have each year. This allows us to provide individual attention to every puppy and ensure they receive the care and socialization they need during their critical early weeks.

We take great care in selecting the right families for our puppies. Every applicant undergoes a thorough screening process to match the right puppy with the right home. At 7 weeks old, we conduct temperament testing using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test. This helps us assess each puppy’s unique personality and guide adopting families in choosing the perfect match for their lifestyle.

By keeping our breeding program small and intentional, we ensure each litter gets the attention it deserves. Our goal is to raise well-rounded, happy Goldendoodle puppies that will bring joy to their forever families.

Our Ethical, Intentional, Professional Goldendoodle BreedingProgram Includes:

  • Health & Genetic Testing: All our breeding dogs undergo genetic and health testing to ensure the best genetic outcomes.
  • Home-Raised Puppies: Our Goldendoodle puppies are raised in a loving, home environment to foster proper socialization and positive experiences.
  • Structured Puppy Curriculum: We provide a structured program that helps our puppies grow into confident, well-adjusted companions.
  • Limited Litters: We intentionally keep our breeding program small to offer individual care and attention to every puppy.
  • Temperament Testing: At 7 weeks, we use the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test to assess each puppy’s personality and match them with the right family.
  • Selective Family Screening: We carefully screen all puppy applications to ensure the best fit between puppy and family.

Health Screening

Since our Goldendoodles live with us in our home and are truly a part of our family, we strongly feel that regular veterinarian examinations, vaccinations, and screenings are essential to maintaining the highest level of health, well-being, and overall happiness of our dogs and puppies.

Puppy Curriculum

Are you looking for a well rounded, socially apt, child friendly, playful, intelligent companion? Enrichment starts at the VERY beginning of their lives to teach them that humans are nice and can be trusted. We start on the third day of their newborn lives with Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and  Early Scent Introduction (ESI). Read more about our protocols in the next section to learn more. Our family also begins training very early on by empowering our puppies with "YES!".  This powerful word helps to instill many positive benefits. By enabling the puppies with "YES!", said in an encouraging, cheerful way,  we provide them with the needed tools to be adaptable, confident, neutral dogs.  While they are growing up in our home, we expose them to a variety of  age-appropriate:

  • Sounds
  • Smells
  • Textures
  • People
  • Environments
  • Challenges

Our objective is to empower our Goldendoodle puppies to be the best version of themselves and to set them up for successful household companions. Once we place our puppies in their forever homes, we help their new families to continue to introduce them to new situations and experiences. Doing this before they are 4 months old will help each puppy gain the confidence they need to live happy, well socialized lives.

Early Scent Introduction (ESI)

Early Scent Introduction Protocol is a way of stimulating the neurological system. But this program focuses specifically on stimulating the puppies sense of smell.

The ESI Protocol helps develop interest in scenting, the ability to detect scents, and the ability to follow scents. This program is proving valuable in raising puppies with an aptitude for activities that require use of their nose – hunting, tracking, nosework (scent detection sports), obedience trials, scent hurdle racing, search and rescue dogs, dogs with a scent detection career (like bomb sniffing dogs, drug sniffing dogs, etc).

Dr. Gayle Watkins is a breeder of sporting Golden Retrievers, and over seven years ago, she began testing dogs to determine the effectiveness of ESI. This involved selecting certain puppies from her litters to receive ESI training, and others that would not receive ESI. The results were nothing short of remarkable. The dogs that participated in ESI had more scenting titles than those that did not participate, and they were achieving titles at ages of up to five years younger than the pups that had not participated.

Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)

ENS is believed to impact the neurological system by kicking it into action earlier than would be normally expected, the result being an increased capacity that later will help to make the difference in its performance, according to Breeding Better Dogs. ENS is time sensitive and must be performed from the third to the 16th days of a puppy’s life.

The exercises are not a substitution for daily handling and stroking of young puppies.

Five benefits have been observed in canines that were exposed to ENS, including improved cardio vascular performance (heart rate); stronger heart beats; stronger adrenal glands; more tolerance to stress; and greater resistance to disease.

In tests of learning, ENS stimulated pups were more active and exploratory than their non- stimulated littermates, according to Breeding Better Dogs.

One of the appealing qualities of Goldendoodles is that they are often considered hypoallergenic. Many dog breeds, including their Poodle parent, are promoted as hypoallergenic, but it’s important to note that no breed is truly 100% hypoallergenic.

When a breed is labeled hypoallergenic, it typically means they shed less fur and produce less dander, which is a common trigger for allergies. However, even hypoallergenic dogs can still cause allergic reactions. While Goldendoodles may benefit from the Poodle's low-shedding coat, they aren't completely exempt from shedding.

Many Goldendoodles have low-shedding coats, making them a good choice for allergy sufferers or anyone who wants to minimize cleaning. However, all dogs produce dander (dead skin cells), saliva, and urine, which contain allergens, so there’s no guarantee that a Goldendoodle won’t trigger an allergic response.

Therefore, we cannot guarantee that your Perks Court Doodle will be entirely non-shedding.

A "multigenerational Goldendoodle" is a Goldendoodle that comes from multiple generations of Goldendoodle ancestry. This type of Goldendoodle is bred beyond the first generation, which is a direct mix of a purebred Golden Retriever and a purebred Poodle.

Generational Breakdown:

  1. First Generation (F1): A direct cross between a purebred Golden Retriever and a purebred Poodle, often sought for its hybrid vigor.
  2. Second Generation (F1b): A Goldendoodle bred back to a purebred Poodle or Golden Retriever, enhancing specific traits.
  3. Multigenerational: This includes dogs with Goldendoodle parents (F2 or later), providing more consistency in size, coat type, and temperament.

Why Choose a Multigenerational Goldendoodle? Multigenerational Goldendoodles are popular among families looking for specific characteristics, such as hypoallergenic coats, varied sizes, and friendly temperaments. If you’re searching for a Goldendoodle puppy that meets your preferences, consider the advantages of choosing a multigenerational breed.

Goldendoodles come in several sizes, classified based on the size of the Poodle parent:

1. **Standard Goldendoodle**: Bred from a Standard Poodle, they typically weigh between 50 to 90 pounds and stand about 20 to 24 inches tall at the shoulder.

2. **Medium Goldendoodle**: Usually bred from a medium-sized Poodle (often a mix of Standard and Miniature), they weigh between 30 to 50 pounds and stand about 16 to 20 inches tall.

3. **Miniature Goldendoodle**: Bred from a Miniature Poodle, they generally weigh between 15 to 35 pounds and stand about 13 to 16 inches tall.

4. **Toy Goldendoodle**: This smaller version, bred from a Toy Poodle, typically weighs between 10 to 20 pounds and stands about 10 to 12 inches tall.

At Perks Court Doodles, we specialize in breeding health-tested Standard and Medium Goldendoodle puppies. Our focus on health ensures that our puppies are not only beautiful but also have the best chance for a long, happy life.

Please note that while we provide estimates based on the parents' sizes, size cannot be guaranteed. Genetics can vary, and factors such as diet and overall health can also influence growth.

Grooming a Goldendoodle is essential to keep their coat healthy and minimize shedding. Here’s a  guide on how to groom a Goldendoodle:

1. Brushing

  •  Frequency: Brush your Goldendoodle at least 2-3 times a week. For those with thicker or curlier coats, daily brushing is recommended.
  • Tools: Use a slicker brush or a comb specifically designed for curly or wavy coats to prevent matting.

2. Bathing

  • Frequency: Bathe your Goldendoodle every 4-6 weeks or as needed, especially if they get dirty or start to smell.
  • Shampoo: Use a mild dog shampoo to avoid skin irritation. Consider a moisturizing shampoo for dry skin.

3. Drying

  • After bathing, gently towel dry your Goldendoodle and, if they’re comfortable with it, use a blow dryer on a low setting to prevent matting.

4. Trimming

  • Face and Feet: Regularly trim hair around the eyes and between the paw pads to keep your Goldendoodle looking neat and to improve visibility and hygiene.
  • Body Coat: Many owners opt for professional grooming every 6-8 weeks for a more uniform cut. Styles vary, from a “puppy cut” (short all over) to longer styles, depending on your preference.

5. Nail Care

  • Frequency: Trim your Goldendoodle’s nails every 4-6 weeks. If you can hear their nails clicking on the floor, it’s time for a trim.
  • Tools: Use dog nail clippers or a nail grinder. Be careful not to cut into the quick, which can cause bleeding.

6. Ear Cleaning

  • Frequency: Check your Goldendoodle's ears weekly for dirt or wax buildup. Clean them with a vet-recommended ear cleaner if necessary.
  • Caution: Be gentle and avoid inserting anything deep into the ear canal.

7. Dental Care

  • Frequency: Brush your Goldendoodle’s teeth at least 2-3 times a week to prevent dental issues.
  • Tools: Use dog-specific toothpaste and a toothbrush designed for pets.

8. Professional Grooming

  • Consider taking your Goldendoodle to a professional groomer, especially if you're unsure about how to maintain their coat. A professional can provide tips tailored to your dog’s specific coat type.

Regular grooming not only keeps your Goldendoodle looking their best but also strengthens your bond and helps you monitor their health.

Goldendoodles are known for their friendly and sociable nature, making them excellent family pets. Their temperament typically combines the best traits of their parent breeds—Golden Retrievers and Poodles.

Key Temperament Traits:

  1. Friendly and Affectionate: Goldendoodles are known for their loving disposition. They thrive on human interaction and are often very loyal to their families.
  2. Intelligent and Eager to Please: With their Poodle heritage, Goldendoodles are highly intelligent and trainable. They enjoy learning new commands and tricks, making training a rewarding experience.
  3. Social and Good with Children: Goldendoodles typically get along well with children and other pets, making them a great choice for families. They tend to be playful and gentle, adapting well to different environments.
  4. Energetic and Playful: These dogs are active and enjoy playtime, so regular exercise is essential. They love outdoor activities, walks, and play sessions.
  5. Calm and Adaptable: Goldendoodles often exhibit a calm demeanor, making them adaptable to various living situations, whether in a bustling household or a quieter environment.

At Perks Court Doodles, we prioritize temperament in our breeding program to ensure that our puppies inherit these wonderful traits, providing you with a loving companion for years to come.

The typical lifespan of a Goldendoodle ranges from 10 to 15 years, depending on various factors such as size, genetics, and overall health. Generally, smaller Goldendoodles tend to live longer than their larger counterparts.

Factors Influencing Lifespan:

  1. Size: Standard Goldendoodles may have a slightly shorter lifespan compared to Miniature or Toy Goldendoodles due to general trends in larger breeds.
  2. Genetics: Health history from both parent breeds—Golden Retrievers and Poodles—can influence longevity. At Perks Court Doodles, we prioritize health testing in our breeding program to promote healthy puppies.
  3. Nutrition: A balanced diet tailored to your Goldendoodle’s age and size is crucial for maintaining their health and longevity.
  4. Exercise: Regular physical activity helps keep Goldendoodles healthy and can contribute to a longer lifespan.
  5. Veterinary Care: Routine check-ups and vaccinations are essential to detect and prevent potential health issues early on.

At Perks Court Doodles, we send our puppies to their new homes only after they have received their first vet exam, first vaccinations, and have been microchipped. This ensures that they get off to a great start in their new lives with you.

By providing proper care, nutrition, and regular veterinary visits, you can help ensure that your Goldendoodle enjoys a long, happy life as a cherished member of your family.

When searching for a Goldendoodle puppy, it’s crucial to choose a reputable breeder. Here’s what to consider:

1. Ethical vs. Backyard Breeders

  • Backyard Breeders: These breeders often lack the knowledge and commitment to responsible breeding practices. They may not conduct health tests on their dogs, which can lead to health issues in the puppies. Their focus is typically on profit rather than the welfare of the animals.
  • Professional, Ethical Breeders: Reputable breeders, like Perks Court Doodles, prioritize the health and temperament of their dogs. They conduct health screenings for common breed-related issues, ensuring that their puppies are as healthy as possible. These breeders are dedicated to maintaining breed standards and enhancing the qualities that make Goldendoodles wonderful companions.

2. Pet Store Puppies

Purchasing a puppy from a pet store often means supporting puppy mills, which prioritize profit over animal welfare. Puppies from these sources may come from unhealthy environments and may not have proper socialization or health screenings. It’s essential to avoid these outlets to ensure you’re not contributing to unethical breeding practices.

3. What to Look for in a Responsible Breeder

  • Health Testing: Ensure the breeder conducts health tests for both parent breeds to screen for genetic conditions.
  • Clean and Safe Environment: Visit the breeder’s facility, if possible. It should be clean, spacious, and well-maintained, with a focus on the well-being of the dogs.
  • Socialization: Responsible breeders ensure their puppies are well-socialized from an early age, which contributes to their temperament and adaptability.
  • Transparency: A good breeder will openly share information about the breeding process, the puppies’ lineage, and any health testing done.
  • Support and Guidance: Reputable breeders provide ongoing support and resources for new puppy owners, helping you with training and care.
  • Contracts and Guarantees: Ethical breeders often provide a contract outlining the responsibilities of both the breeder and the new owner, as well as health guarantees for the puppy.

At Perks Court Doodles, we pride ourselves on being a small, home-based breeder dedicated to producing healthy, well-adjusted Goldendoodle puppies. We prioritize responsible breeding practices, health testing, and the well-being of our dogs. By choosing a reputable breeder, you can ensure a positive experience for both you and your new furry family member.
